Terribly busy at the moment. I have several paintings that sit there unfinished waiting for my time. Decided to finish this study of Simon Baker I started a while back. At leat I call it finished, I guess one is never really satisfied anyway.
I came across a girl who was doing painting critiques on youtube and she demonstrated how to improve the specific art piece, people sent to her. She got some challenge of drawing faces out of memory every day for 14 days and promised one would see a dramatic improvement. I did the front view version first and tried my luck now on the 3/4 view. Like on my front views I lose contrast in middle of the process, i can't explain how that happens. I also lost the ability to paint noses all in a sudden and the compressed part of the face is still not perfectly done. The challenge should actually be done without any props, meaning no hair. Like in my front views i still added hair, but also included the blank skull, so one can see that I added it afterwards and not in the middle of the process. Comparing day 1 to day 14, I think I did an improvement, although i made some backsteps here and then.
If anyone is interested in doing the same or is still stuck with pulling a face out of nothing, I would recommend to just give it a try. Her deviantart page: Istebrak Her Youtube channel: www.youtube.com/user/Istebrak/…
